Career Counseling Session
The P.G. Department of Psychology at St. Thomas College, Bhilai, organized a career counseling session specifically for the students enrolled in the 10th grade at the government higher secondary school in Maroda Tank, Bhilai. This collaborative initiative represented a synergistic collaboration between St. Thomas College and the Government Higher Secondary School of Maroda Tank, Bhilai. Mrs. Mitra Roy Chowdhury, principal of the institution, along with various other staff members, demonstrated exceptional cooperation and contributed significantly to the effective implementation of the program.
The primary objective of the program was to enhance the awareness of school children regarding their career preferences aligned with their interests and psychological well-being. The students were evaluated utilizing psychometric instruments grounded in the empirical framework established by Ann Roe. The outcomes of the assessments were subsequently deliberated with the students one to one basis by the college professors and the trainee counselors.
Administrator of the college, Fr. Dr. P S Varghese appreciated the programme and Principal Dr. M.G. Roymon encouraged the department to conduct such creative programme. Dr. Debjani Mukherjee, Head of the department spoke on the topic of mental health and choice of vocation. Assistant Professors Dr. Sumita Singh and Dr. Nimmi Varghese conducted the session very successfully under the guidance of Dr. Debjani Mukherjee, Head Dept. of Psychology . Dr. Ankita Deshmukh, assistant professor of the department assisted in organizing the session. The students of M.A psychology and Post Graduate Diploma in Psychological Guidance and Counseling were the training counselors, who assisted the faculty in conducting the tests and counseling sessions. The two institutions worked in collaboration which benefited the school students regarding career choices as well gave an opportunity to the young trainee counselors to learn experientially and practically under the able guidance of the college faculty. The whole purpose was to conduct an awareness program where students learned about the various vocations that may interest them. This in turn may make an employee work life stress free, if the vocation is an area of liking for that person.
