Civil Services Exam Structure

The Civil Services Aspirants Club organized an online orientation session on “Introduction to the Civil Services Exam Structure.” The session aimed to provide aspirants with a comprehensive understanding of the UPSC exam’s various stages, enabling them to approach their preparation with a focused and strategic mindset.At the outset, Dr. Sheeja Varkey, convenor of the Civil Services Aspirants Club, welcomed the gathering. Principal Dr. M.G. Roymon highlighted the essential qualities needed to succeed in competitive exams like the CSE, emphasizing the importance of determination, perseverance, and diligence.Administrator, Rev. Fr. Dr. P.S. Varghese urged aspirants to stay focused, committed, and disciplined throughout their preparation. He stressed that planning, a structured approach, and a clear vision are crucial for cracking one of India’s most competitive exams.Dean Academics, Dr. Debjani Mukherjee encouraged the aspirants to approach their preparation with commitment, discipline, and confidence in their abilities. She motivated them to maintain a steady focus and stay dedicated to their long-term goals. Mr. Vinay Singh, a professional faculty member at a renowned UPSC coaching academy, was the resource person for the session. He underscored the significance of civil services in India, emphasizing the career opportunities they offer and the profound impact civil servants have on the nation’s development and governance. He discussed the result structure, explaining the weightage given to the Prelims and Mains, and how final marks are awarded after the Personality Test. Additionally, Mr. Singh recommended several essential papers and magazines for aspirants, such as The Hindu, Economic and Political Weekly, and Yojana. These resources, he stated, would help aspirants stay updated on current affairs and provide a solid foundation for General Studies and specific topics for the Mains. He encouraged aspirants to view UPSC preparation as a long-term commitment that requires continuous learning and self-improvement.

Mr. Singh also addressed the aspirants’ queries, providing detailed explanations on various aspects of the UPSC exam, including its pattern, preparation strategies, and essential resources. The program was conducted by Dr. Deepti Santosh, Head (In-charge) of the Department of Sociology. The vote of thanks was proposed by Ms. Arshia Mariam Kurian, a student.(M.Com II Semester). The session was attended by Heads of Departments, organizing committee members, student representatives, members of staff, and a large number of students.
