Orientation Program on Cracking CSIR NET Exam

In a collaborative effort to guide and support postgraduate students in their preparation for competitive exams, the Department of Microbiology and Biotechnology, in association with the Department of Botany and Zoology, St. Thomas College, Bhilai, conducted an informative orientation program on March 7, 2025. The program, aimed at equipping students with strategies to crack the prestigious CSIR NET (Council of Scientific and Industrial Research National Eligibility Test), was a resounding success.
The orientation attracted PG students pursuing courses in Life Sciences from various disciplines. The event focused on offering expert advice, valuable insights, and effective techniques for preparing for the CSIR NET exam, which is a critical step for aspiring scientists seeking research and teaching positions in prestigious institutes across India. The session was led by Dr. Shubha Diwan, Assistant Professor, Department of Microbiology & Biotechnology who was the speaker. She shared her firsthand experience of tackling the exam. She elaborated on the structure of the exam, the syllabus, and crucial tips on time management, study materials, and exam-taking strategies.
She emphasized the importance of a focused approach to preparation, highlighting the need for consistency and practice. Meanwhile, Administrator of the College; Fr. Dr. P. S Varghese, Principal; Dr. M G Roymon, Dean (Academics); Dr. Debjani Mukherjee who graced the session provided key insights into how students could leverage their knowledge from their PG course to strengthen their exam performance.
The collaboration between the departments marked a significant step in providing holistic support to students aspiring for successful careers in research and academia The session concluded with words of encouragement from the administrator and Principal, who urged students to stay committed and believe in their abilities, assuring them that the path to success is within reach with the right mindset and guidance.
