WORKSHOP ON COUNSELING SKILLS

St. Thomas College in collaboration with CG psychological forum conducts a workshop on counseling skills

St Thomas College, Bhilai join hands with Chhattisgarh psychological forum and conducted one day workshop on counseling skills at St Thomas Bhilai. The workshop had prominent psychologist and counselors of the area sharing their expertise and knowledge. Foremost in this field Dr. Pramod Gupta, psychiatrist and director of CIMHANS, Devada was the keynote speaker. Dr. Gupta spoke on the need of psychological counseling and it’s relevance in today’s time. The stigma related with psychological counseling and the need of society to change its mindset was also highlighted. The administrator of the College Rev Fr Dr. P S Varghese gave his presidential address in the workshop.He always promotes such progressive activities in the college. He talked about the counseling practices needed for the young generations. Principal Dr. MG Roymon highlighted the importance of counseling in an educational institution and encouraged the program. Dr Basant Kumar Sonber head department of psychology, Kamla Devi Rathi Girls College Rajnandgaon coordinated the program and welcomed the gathering. Dr. Debjani Mukherjee convener thanked the esteemed resource persons gracing the occasion.
There were three technical sessions which targeted three different aspects of counseling. Professor Gujjar from CIMHANS talked about the various therapies in clinical settings needed for the care of mentally week patients. Dr. Nisha Goswami both a doctor and psychological counselor spoke on the counseling practices prevalent in today’s contemporary times. Cases handled in day-to-day practice were also discussed. Mr. Soju Samuel counselor Delhi public school. Risali spoke on the student issues that are prevalent in school setting. He highlighted on various counseling techniques also.
Dr. Abha Sashi director of family counseling center SAMAGRA and Malvika Kishore handled the student queries. The program was organized by faculty of St Thomas College collaborating with members of Chhattisgarh psychological forum. Dr. Sumita Singh , Dr. Ankita Deshmukh, Dr. Nimmi Varghese and Dr. Manoj Khanna helped in the smooth execution of the one day workshop.
