WORKSHOP ON THE PHILOSOPHY OF MARTIN LUTHER KING
The Peace Club of St. Thomas College, Bhilai, organized a one-day workshop on the philosophical views of Martin Luther King, focusing on Nonviolence. The keynote speaker for the program was Dr. Nimmi Varghese, a Peace and Reconciliation Trainer from the University of Rhode Island, USA.
The program commenced with the college prayer, followed by a warm welcome to the esteemed guests with floral bouquets. The Administrator of the college, Rev. Fr. Dr. P. S. Varghese, emphasized three essential principles for a meaningful life in today’s world: living peacefully, loving everyone, and interacting with others with a calm mind and pleasant demeanor. The Principal, Dr. M. G. Roymon, appreciated the initiative, while the Dean of Academics, Dr. Debjani Mukherjee, highlighted how the tradition of peace and Nonviolence has been upheld from Lord Buddha to Mahatma Gandhi.
In her keynote address, Dr. Nimmi Varghese elaborated on how Nonviolence can be integrated into daily life, helping individuals overcome everyday challenges while leading a more peaceful and relaxed life.
The workshop was thoughtfully designed and coordinated by the convenor, Dr. Reema Dewangan. The program was conducted by Dr. Neelam Gandhi, and the vote of thanks was proposed by Mr. Amitabh Sharma. The event witnessed the presence of Peace Club members, including Dr. Rupa Shrivastava, Dr. Shubha Diwan, Dr. Suruchi Parkhe, and Mr. Mahendra Ikhar. Student coordinators Shiny Osef, Khushi, and Anurag Shrivastava, along with the students from other departments, also actively participated in the event.
The workshop served as a valuable platform to reflect on the philosophy of Nonviolence and its relevance in contemporary society.
