In the year 1984, the visionary Late Lamented His Grace Dr. Stephanos Mar Theodosius foresaw the great oak within the tiny acorn which he planted and nurtured with care & dedication. His Grace was the Founder-Manager of St. Thomas College, Bhilai whose mission was to work for the spiritual, social, educational, cultural and economic upliftment of the people. Laying the foundation of St. Thomas College (STC), Bhilai was one of the steps in that direction. Established in the year 1984, and originally affiliated to Pt. Ravishankar Shukla University, Raipur, the institution migrated to Hemchand Yadav Vishwavidyalaya, Durg in 2015.

His Grace reckoned that education should give equal weightage to both knowledge and skills along with instilling moral values in the young minds. The vision and mission of His Grace have acted as a beacon guiding the College in the right direction and it has carved for itself a niche in the education map of India. It was awarded the FIRST Dr. B. L. Pandey Memorial Trophy for Best College in 2014 on Performance Index of Affiliated Colleges (PIAC)- 2013 among 151 affiliated private Colleges under Pt. Ravishankar Shukla University, Raipur. All its courses are sanctioned by the Department of Higher Education, Chhattisgarh Government. It has been reaccredited at B++ level by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) of the UGC.

St. Thomas College, Bhilai has been declared as a minority institution by National Commission for Minority Educational Institutions (NCMEI) vide its order dated 13.06.2006 in case No.203 of 2005. The same has been reiterated by Commissioner, Adim Jati Thatha Anusuchit Jati Vikas Kariyalay, C.G dated 24.08.2013 Aa.sa/151/2013-14/186/6544.  A Governing body formed as per the judgment of NCMEI and Court delivered on 13.6.2006 (F.No. 203 of 2005/8509DT 15.6.2006) and the UGC (F.8-115/89 (CPP-I) DT 12.09.1989) oversees the functioning of the College.

The College evolved under the sagacity of visionary Late Lamented His Grace Dr. Stephanos Mar Theodosius and his legacy is now under the stewardship of Chairman of College, His Grace Dr. Joseph Mar Dionysius.  The astute leadership and resourcefulness of our former Principals Late Rev. Fr. John V. John, Late Prof. T. O. Zacharia, Late Prof. K. M. Kuriakose and Dr. Reny George preserved the legacy which is now upheld efficiently by the present Principal Dr. M.G. Roymon.

Over the years, the College has garnered accolades in co-curricular and extra-curricular domains. Every year, the students bring laurels for the alma mater by securing top positions in academics. The institution places equal emphasis on literary, cultural and sports activities. The pupils have risen to the challenge of present-day competition and have proved their mettle at district, state and national levels.

The aesthetically built Girl’s hostel is situated amidst lush greenery where students can pursue their studies in a serene atmosphere.

St. Thomas Alumni Association has been a nodal forum for its alumni to share their time, experience and talent to further the College’s mission of preparing students to explore the world critically & creatively, live & work honourably, and experience life abundantly.
