  • Date : 1st August 2016 :- 7 day workshop on Maintenance and Repair of Laboratory Instruments was organised for both Teaching and Non-teaching staff members of Science departments. Conducted by Western Regional Instrumentation Centre (WRIC) Mumbai , 31 beneficiaries from four different colleges including St Thomas College.
  • Date: October 5,2016 :- Free Medical and Dental Check-up were organised for girls Conducted by Student Union Council and NCC Wing of College ,Assisted by Shail Khare (Gynocologist) CHMO, District Hospital, Durg, C.G and Dr. Swati Rao (Dentist) CHMO District Hospital,Durg, CG ,Beneficiaries : 97
  • Date : 13th October, 2016 : Organised an Orientation session for adhoc and newly appointed staff . Conducted by : Co-ordinator, IQAC Beneficiaries : 17 members of staff.

  • Community Service was taken up in different modes and all the departments executed them at different levels
    1. Antinarcotic drives: Gram Pithora on 8thOctober 2016 by Student Union council
    2. Donations: Date: 26th October, 2016, Donated Rs.4750 toAkshay Patra (Unlimited Food for Education) which is a Hare Krishna Movement towards food expenses for 5 children for one year . Donated by P.G. Department of Botany – Staff and students.
  • Date: December 19,2016 : Clean India Initiative and cashless, digital transactions at Janjgir village of Durg district. The message was disseminated through street plays and villagers pledged to keep the village clean Conducted by: P.G. Department of Commerce.
  • Voluntary services: Classes of social science in the Government School, uabandha,Bhilai . G. Dept. of Commerce GyaanDaan Programme is conducted twice a week throughout the year for weak students of primary classes at Government School, Ruabandha, Bhilai Conducted by: PG Dept of Economics ,3. 7 day community service was organised by taking classes in Gen. Science for class 6, 7 and 8 at Government Middle School, Sector-7, Bhilai. Conducted by P.G. Department of Chemistry
  • Decreasing interest towards life sciences is a matter of concern. In order to develop interest towards study of Plant Sciences students from neighbouring schools of Class IX of BSP senior Secondary School, Sector – VII, X and MGM School, Sector 6 were introduced to basic practical and use of various laboratory equipment on 13th February, 2017. Conducted by P.G. Department of Botany.
  • Environmental and Social issues: the department of Journalism and Mass Communication conducts Awareness drives on Environmental and Social issues on various occasions through Street Plays at Civic Centre and Tafree organised by Mayor of of Bhilai.
  • 9 day Educational tour was organised to Bahra University, Shimla; Institute of Advanced Studies, Shimla and Centre for manufacturing and retailing shawls at Kullu. Date: January 14, 2017 to January 22, 2017. Organised by : Student Union Council , Beneficiaries : 111

Need Based Service

As per the directives issued by Durg ollectorate regarding upgradation of quality of education in government schools of the district the post graduate students of Botany organised a need based community service from 5th October – 17th October, 2015 to meet needs of school children in Government Higher Secondary School, Ruabandha, Bhilai under the guidance of the faculty members. Looking into the problem of inadequate teachers faced by the school, 65 students of UG and PG rendered services by teaching Mathematics, English, Social Science, Science and Environmental Science.

Students of class IX, X and XII were benefitted by their service.

  1. Blood donation camp was organised in the college premisesin collaboration with Skandashram and Model Blood Bank, Raipur. 113 volunteers from among students, Faculty and staff members registered their names for blood donation.

  • Awareness Drive:
  1. Health and Hygiene: Awareness was created asstudents performed various events such as skit and displaying posters. They also motivated the students through interactive ways. There were total 15 students of who participated in the awareness program held at Government Primary School, Ruabandha.
