Launched in 1984, the Department of Economics has established itself as a noteworthy center for higher studies in Economics, offering BA and MA programs.
The diversity of Economics is reflected in the way the program’s syllabus is structured, exposing students to a broad range of processes and logics which are involved in the making of theories.
The Department of Economics caters to the needs of the students not only at the BA and MA level, but also provides its service to other departments were this subject is part of their curriculum.

One of the distinctive features of the Department is the ready accessibility of its faculty to the students.
The department pays emphasis on learning, with process like internal exams, assignments and presentation, designed to assist the students in their learning process.
The department also provides platform for the students holistic development by conducting seminars, quizzes, panel discussions, debates etc. and providing opportunities to serve the community at large through their extension service.

The large number of applicants for the program testifies to the growing demand of the subject, with students holding University Merit positions both at the undergraduate and postgraduate level.
The success of the programs is reflected in its graduates who continue to pursue academics and research, appear in competitive examinations for the administrative services and banks, or have joined various research institutes or other organizations in the private sector.
The Department takes pride in its alumni who have gone on to do well in their chosen professions.

OVERVIEW OF ASSOCIATION

The Department of Economics dedicated the association named – The Wizard, in the year 2015 in order to provide a platform to its students for their overall development.
. Under “The Wizard” banner the department organizes weekly and yearly activities like quizzes, panel discussions, debates etc. along with conferences, seminars and workshops.
These planned activities not only see participation from the students of the Department but also encourages participation across departments contributing to the college’s vision of imparting holistic growth to all those who enter its gates.
The activities under the association have helped to highlight the department’s initiatives to provide significant growth to the students through knowledge sharing by resource personnel both at the state and national level.
Some of the achievements of the association has also made it to the headlines of the local newspapers.
