Academic Libraries are the treasure trove of knowledge. In the Library of St. Thomas College (STC) one will find a variety of general learning resources and incalculable perusing material related to the courses being run thus providing all the assistance needed to succeed. The College has a Central library and every Post Graduate Department has Department Libraries as well.
The Central Library is the soul of St. Thomas College. The Central Library is a two storied building, providing a space to study, procuring material for study and services to assist learning. This is the storehouse of books and repository of knowledge and has got an invaluable collection of books in different subjects. Users have access to a lending library, reference library, paperback library, non-print media library and a vast treasure of journals (current and back volumes), magazines and newspapers. The lending library has a collection of about 38,000 valuable books that are available as text books and reference books. The conducive environment of library supports staff and students to develop the habit of learning. The library has open shelf system and users can have access to the required books easily. Recommendations for new books are always invited from staff and students to strengthen the collection of books.
Reference section in the College library is one of the essential information resources the value of which is inestimable in the hands of a user, who requires quality information to make the best selection from the collection. All PG Departments have a library with good collection of books from the central Library, donated books and personal books of the faculty and addresses the teaching and learning need of all users.
The Library Management system (LMS) is also installed and thus transformed the traditional library into digital library. With a computerized database of books in the library, the search and retrieval of books is much easier. The library subscribes to the Standard Research Journals pertaining to the fields of Science, Humanities, Management Studies, Commerce and Education. The College has INFLIBNET facility for students, teaching staff as well as research scholar and has access to E-Journals for (about) 6293 titles and 195809 E-Books. Other than this, the students, scholars and faculty can get to the resources of the National Digital Library of India (NDL) which contain > 7 lakh books, 3 lakh research papers, 95.000 + hypotheses.
Syllabus and Question Papers are available in online mode. Project Reports of Staff and Students are preserved in the library.
Electronic surveillance camera (CCTV) are installed in the Central Library to control, minimize or avoid library material theft, unethical losses and secure the valuable resources collected over time.
Reading Room: Separate reading rooms for students and staff (40 and 20 seating capacity respectively)
Book Bank: A set of 4 books of different subjects is issued to needy student for the entire academic session/ semester at a very nominal fee. For SC/ST/Minority 6 books are issued per student. The books can be returned after the university exams are over.
Multimedia Resources Centre: 10 PCs with Wi-Fi facility to provide support for concurrent integration of different types of contents.
Storage Devices: Original DVDs and VCDs
Reprographic Service: Reference and reprographic services are provided to the visitors
Photocopy: Photocopier with scanning facility
News Paper Clipping Service: Maintaining daily newspaper clipping file with record of all information published and are arranged in chronological order for future references
