33rdAnnual Cultural Fest and “Aagaam 2017
The 33rd Annual Cultural Fest and Aagaam 2017 has been inaugurated in St. Thomas College in a very extravagant manner on 24th January . The Chief Guest of the program was Mr. Narendra Kumar Dugga (IAS Commissioner ,Nagar Nigam, Bhilai) inuagrated the function .
The other dignitaries present in the program were Shri Shyam Sundar Rao Speaker (Nagar Nigam, Bhilai), Shri Rang Bahadur, Corporator , Ruabandha Sector. Administrator of the college Rev. Fr George Mathew Ramban, Principal Dr. M. G. Roymon, Professor incharge of Student Union Council and the co-ordinator of the Fest Dr. Sapna Sharma, President of Student Union Council Mr.Amanpreet Singh Rekhi and other office bearers, Miss Akansha, Miss Pratishtha Singh Chandel and Mr Jayant Mishra.
The fuction commenced with the invocation of God’s Blessings and with the floral welcome of the dignitaries. Principal Dr.M. G. Roymon in his address discussed about the ups and downs of the college in these long 33 years of its journey and appreciated the students who reached their heights and marked their position in their respective career. Mr.Narendra Kumar Dugga in his speech spoke about the importance of being creative and original and motivated the students to come out with their talents and bring out their best in front of this world. Administrator Rev. Fr George Mathew Ramban in his speech spoke about the success of the college from the year 1984 and not only proved it position in the field of research but also enriched its position in the field of sports, library and quality of staff. He gave away the prestigious prizes like the the Kala Pratipha award for the best cultural performer and Abi Mathew award for the best student of the college etc
He congratulated the students for their bright future; he further honored the chief guest with the memento as a token of memory.
The day came to end with the mesmerizing performance of the students.
On 25th January 2017 .St. Thomas College Bhilai Celebrated the 33rd Annual Prize distribution day in a magnificent way, Mrs. Ramshila Sahu, Minister, Women and Children Development and Social Welfare Department, Govt of Chhattisgarh graced the ceremony as a chief guest. In her highly motivating speech Mrs. Sahu appreciated the college for successfully organizating the three day cultural fest Aagaam. She also appreciated the graceful performances of the students in both academic and co-curricular activities. H.G.Joseph Mar Dionysius chairman of the college in his presidential speech congratulated the students for their outstanding performance in both academic and non-academic level. He marked the day as a day of fellowship.
Principal Dr. M.G. Roymon in his address discussed about this glorious institution and stated that college indeed has a lot to celebrate as it looks back to the 33yrs of its existence. He also focused on the signposts and achievements of the college throughout these years. He also reflected the college position in very high in the educational map of India with academic, cultural and sports excellence and also he stressed the contribution of the college in rendering community services among the downtrodden students in various schools. He congratulated the student union members for maintaining their discipline throughout these three days of celebration. Dr. Sapna Sharma Incharge of student’s union council welcomed the gathering.
Prizes and certificates were distributed among the outstanding students who excelled in both academic and co-curricular activities. The students representing college at National and all India Central Zone Inter- University tournament were also awarded with certificates and trophies.
The pro shows for the next two days are Voice of Aagaam and Face of Aagaam. The Guest of honour for the Voice of Aagaam was Mr Devendra Yadav , Mayor Municipal Corporation , Bhilai.
Administrator of the college Rev. Fr. George Mathew Ramban blessed the gathering. Other dignitaries present in the occasion were vice President student union Mr. Aman Preet singh Rekhi, Vice President Miss. Akansha, Secretary Pratishtha Singh Chandel, and Joint Secretary Mr. Jayant Mishra.
The students gave their best in the Voice of Aagaam competition.
The Face of Agaam is one of most sought after program of the college .Students enthusiastically participated in it.
The program was conducted by Dr. Sheeja Varkey and Mrs. V. Shanti. Vote of Thanks was proposed by Mr. Jayant Mishra.
Mar Theodosius Memorial Basketball Tournament held at St Thomas College
The 6th Mar Theodosius Memorial Inter Collegiate Basketball Tournament for men was inaugurated at St. Thomas College Bhilai. Different Colleges from Durg District participated in the tournament. Chief Guest for the inaugural ceremony was the Manager Bishop of the College His Grace Dr. Joseph Mar Dionysius. In his presidential address His Grace said that Late Manager Bishop was a missionary, visionary and a philanthropist, who always emphasized on maintaining a cordial relation with all the educational institutions. He further said that the Basketball tournament held every year is instrumental in keeping up the sacred memory of the Late Lamented Manager Bishop of the College. Principal of the College.
Dr. M.G.Roymon welcomed the gathering and enumerated on the various contributions made by Late Manager Bishop in the field of education and other social services. Administrator of the college Rt. Rev. Fr. George Mathew also graced the occasion. The inaugural match was played between Science College, Durg and Swaroopanand College, Hudco. Science College defeated the opponent team by 52- 22 points .The other match was played between Surana College and CSIT in which Surana College won the match by 17 points. In another match played between Govt. College Bhilai 3 and Shri Shankaracharya College Sec-6 , the Govt. College Bhilai- 3, lost the match by 7 points . St. Thomas College, Bhilai defeated Govt. VIPRA College and headed for the Semi – final match. St. Thomas College defeated their opponents and qualified for the Semifinal.
Present for the inaugural ceremony were co-coordinator of sports Dr. Ashok Mishra, Sports officers from different colleges, Dr. Vinita Thomas, HOD, Dept of Botany and Dr. Sapna Sharma , Professor Incharge Student Union, President Student Union Aman Preet Singh Rekhi , other office bearers , students and other members of the college.

The Committee for Promotion of Research Activities (COPRA) of our college is organizing a workshop on “ Research Methodology , Statistics and SPSS “ from 22 to 28th November 2016.
The registration date is extended upto 22nd November 2016 . The registration fee is Rs 1500/-.

The Eco Club is organising a 15 day cleaning mission program of the college campus ” Swatch Bharat pakwada ” which was inuagrated on 3 rd November by the principal Dr. M.G. Roymon. This mission will continue till 15 Nov 2016. Students and Staff members of the college participated in it and took pleadge to keep our surroundings clean and plastic free.

St. Thomas College Team becomes Hand Ball Champion..
Intercollegiate District Level Hand Ball (men) Tournament was won by St. Thomas College Team. Tournament was decided on Knock out Basis, The inaugural match was played between St. Thomas College and Surana College, in which St. Thomas College defeated its opponent by 15-4. The Final Match was played between St. Thomas College and Kalyan College in which St. Thomas College won the Final Match and was declared Winners by 10 points. Different Colleges from Durg District participated in the tournament. Administrator of the College V.Rev.Fr.George Mathew Ramban , Principal of the college Dr. M. G. Roymon ,Mr. K.N. Verma Sports Officer and members of the staff congratulated the students for their outstanding performance in the tournament. .
