Tree plantation

St. Thomas college organised tree plantation programme on 22-11-22. Chief guest of this function was Shri N.K Jain DGM (I/C) horticulture department, Bhilai steel plant.

On this occasion Principal Dr. M. G Roymon welcomed the guest in his speech he emphasized on importance of green plants, and also about the caring of the plants

Workshop on “Intellectual Property Rights- Patent & Designs Process

IPR refers creation of mind such as invention literacy, artistic work, design, symbol, names and images in any subjects for limited period of time.

The main purpose behind this is to encourage the creation of wild variety of goods for consumers, to achieve this, Patent law gives business property right to information for limited period of time

Patenting is one of the stage strategies for production of one’s intellectual right. To explore this P.G. Department of Microbiology and Biotechnology of St. Thomas College, Bhilai organized a Workshop on “Intellectual Property Rights- Patent & Designs Process” The objective of this workshop was to encourage the students for filing of various types of patents.

Principal Dr. M.G. Roymon was delivered the welcome speech and congratulated all staff members and said that the St. Thomas College regularly organizes this type of programme for benefit to students.

Mr. Himanshu Chandrakar, Examiner of Patents and Design, RGNIIPM, Nagpur was the resource person for this programme. He has been working for more than 6 Years in Indian patent office, Govt. of India and is presently working as examiner of patents and design at Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Intellectual Property Management, Nagpur.

He enlightened the students with various types of patents and gave detailed information about it to them. By giving examples he explained the participants about different Intellectual property Right. He very well explained the procedure and process to file different types of patents. In his lecture he explained different opportunities of  choosing patent examiner as career. He also thanked the organizing team for arranging such scientific programme.

This event was supervised by Dr. V. Shanthi, Head, Department of Microbiology and Biotechnology. On this event total 115 participants were registered.

This Programme was conducted by Dr. Ujjwala Supe and vote of thanks was proposed by Ms. Sulagna Ghosh Barman.

Workshop on Self Defense for Girls

The Committee for Prevention of Sexual Harassment (CPOSH) & IQAC, St. Thomas College, Ruabandha, Bhilai organised One-Day Workshop on Self-Defence for Girls. The trainer on this occasion were Mr. Sensei Sandeep Tamrakar, Chief Technical Director, Creative Karate Academy Bhilai, and Mrs. Sempai Anjana Rajveer Singh, Women Self Defense Expert Bhilai. The principal of the college, Dr. M.G. Roymon appreciated the effort of the committee with his esteemed presence in the workshop. The IQAC coordinator Dr. Debjani Mukherjee and various staff members were present in the workshop. The welcome address was given by Dr. Aparna Ghosh, Convenor, CPOSH where she emphasised on the utmost need and significance of Self Defence Skill sets amongst the girls to keep themselves safe and prepared to deal with the dreadful and disheartening varied occurrences like domestic violence, mental and physical harassment in the society. The workshop was conducted by Dr. Sheeja Varkey, Addl. HOD, PG Dept. of Commerce and Vote of thanks was proposed by Miss Sukanya Jeena BA Final Year Student.

Inauguration of National Library Week

The inaugural ceremony of the National Library Week celebrations was organized at St. Thomas College, Bhilai. Dr. Sapna Sharma, Head of the Department of Commerce welcomed the gathering & highlighted the importance of libraries in keeping reading habits alive so that future generations would be able to express themselves in writing. Chief Guest of the occasion Dr. M.G.Roymon, Principal, St. Thomas College, Bhilai unveiled the logo of the Central Library that depicted its commitment to motivate students towards achieving their pinnacle of success. He appreciated the initiative of the library committee & expressed his optimism about sparking a renewed interest in reading through such activities. He emphasized the valuable role played by libraries & librarians in transforming lives and strengthening communities. Various contests have been organized by the Central Library of the college throughout the week to celebrate the occasion & foster the spirit of learning among the youth. Dr. Jyoti Bakshi, Head of the Department of Botany shared the programme schedule and the rules that must be adhered to by the contestants. She also exhorted students from all disciplines to participate in large numbers in the activities. The function culminated with the vote of thanks proposed by Mrs. Ritu Biswas, Librarian of the Central Library of the institution. She acknowledged the fact that the expansion of libraries through digital resources has enabled them to serve society better than in the past. However, she asseverated that digital libraries cannot ever overshadow traditional libraries and their ambience in pursuit of knowledge.

BAJMC (Bachelor’s of Arts in Journalism And Mass Communication) Department of St. Thomas College, Ruabandha Bhilai has organized a 15 day Certificate Programme on “Mass Communication – A Tool of Various Dimensions”. Dr. Shailendra Kumar Khandelwal, Associate Professor, Department of Advertising &
Public Relation of KTUJM, Raipur was the Chief Guest for the Inaugural Session of the Programme.

Dr. M. G. Roymon, the Principal of St. Thomas College, along with the chief guest, Dr. Shailendra Khandelwal, Dr. Reema Dewangan, Head of the department of Journalism and Mass Communication and the faculty members of the department of Mass Communication inaugurated the session by a Lamp Lighting ceremony, followed by a welcome speech from the Principal of the College, where he addressed his views on the respective Programme. Dr. Reema Dewangan, Head of the Department (BAJMC) addressed all the participants and highlighted some key points about the Certificate Programme. The faculty members of the BAJMC Department, Mr. Amitabh Sharma and Ms. Chhavi Sahu were immediate during the session.

Dr. Shailendra Kumar Khandelwal disseminated about the various aspects of the field of Journalism shared his vast knowledge about the same. He also interacted with the participants where he answered their queries and also explained the significance of skill development.

A vote of appreciation and gratitude to leading person of the Guest Speaker was paid off by Mr.Amitabh Sharma, Assistant Professor of BAJMC department. At last, Participants gave their feedback about the respective session.

MAR THEODOSIUS MEMORIAL AWARD TO BE BESTOWED UPON HIS HOLINESS MORAN MAR BASELIOS MARTHOMA III

St. Thomas Mission located at Kailash Nagar Bhilai has been a household name in the region for decades due to relentless humanitarian works of the great visionary Late Lamented Bishop Dr. Stephanos Mar Theodosius. In life he has inspired many a personalities and still continues to do so through fruits of his labor. To encourage and acknowledge prominent works in the field of social service, education and human rights Mar Theodosius Memorial Award is conferred by the Diocese of Calcutta and St. Thomas Mission on the occasion of the late Bishop’s Memorial Feast on 5th November. This year Mar Theodosius Award would be conferred to His Holiness Moran Mar Baselios Marthoma III, the supreme head of Indian Orthodox Church.
His Holiness has been serving the downtrodden of the society in the past decades through a number of projects. The following initiatives are has been taking care of thousands of needy persons:
Pratheeksha Bhavan – Home mentally and physically challenged, has been caring for the needy people since 1996.
Prashanthi Bhavan (Home of Comfort) – is designed to provide comfort to terminally ill patients who have no place to go.
Prathyasha Bhavan – (Home of Hope) – institution takes care of mentally challenged and physically disabled boys.
Pradanam Centre – Centre for free medical aid to poor patients.
Pramodam Project – Distributing food every day to the poor Patients in the government hospitals and near to the premises of Kanadanad.
Prasannam Centre –this project is intended to take care of the destitute mental patients for life. Prakasham Institute of special education – This institute is intended to give training to the teachers for the training of mentally retarded children.
Prepalanam – A project for providing pension to unorganized urban.Now 110 persons availing this facility.
Prebhatham computer Centre – giving free computer education to poor student irrespective of caste and creed.
Presadham – Home for AIDS and Cancer patients.
Prathibha Bhavan – The project aims at giving training to the unemployed youths for self-employment through various small scale industries.

The 15th Remembrance Day of the late Bishop would be celebrated along with the Golden Jubilee Anniversary of St. Thomas Mission on 4thand 5th November, 2022. The award would be presented during the Golden Jubilee Ceremony of St. Thomas Mission Bhilai, at 7:45pm on 4 November, 2022.
Honourable minister Shri Muhammed Akbar ,Shri Devendra Yadav MLA, H. G. Dr. Victor Henry Thakur, Archbishop of Raipur, His Grace Dr. Joseph Mar Dionysius Metropolitan , His Grace Alexios Mar Eusebius Metropolitan and the office bearers of the Mission and Calcutta Diocese would be present in the Jubilee meeting.

Organized One Day Faculty Development Programme

A One Day Faculty Development Programme was organized at St. Thomas College, Bhilai on “Publication in Quality Journals” with MoU partner Jaipuria Institute of Management, Indore. The FDP was delivered by resource person Dr. Sahil Singh Jasrotia, Assistant Dean of Research from the partner institution. During this interactive session, several aspects like recognition of reputed and  authentic journals, code of conduct for writing a research work, publication ethics, do’s and don’ts for scholastic publication were thoroughly discussed. Dr. M.G. Roymon, Principal, St. Thomas College, Bhilai delivered the welcome address and shared his views on importance of quality research work in today’s scenario. The programme was conducted by Ms. S. Nidhi, Faculty, PG Dept. of Commerce while the vote of thanks was proposed by Dr. Suruchi Parkhey, Assistant Professor, PG Dept. of Botany.

Fifteen students of PG Department of Chemistry St. Thomas College, Participated in Poster Competition

Fifteen students of PG Department of Chemistry St. Thomas College, Participated in Poster Competition on 22/10/22 organized by Pt. Ravishankar Shukla  University, Raipur  to celebrate the Golden Jubilee Year under the ageis of Azadi ka Amrit mahosav. The theme for PG students was “ Science and technology for sustainable  Development”. Kumari Sakshi Yadav of M.sc. 4th Sem. Bagged the First Position and received the amount of Rs.3000. On this occasion more than 100 students of various institution participated actively. Rev. Fr. Dr. Joshi Varghese Administrator, St. Thomas college and Principal of the college Dr. M.G. Roymon congratulated the students for their participation and achievement. Head of the Department  Dr.James Mathew appreciated the efforts taken by the faculties Dr. Chanda Verma, Dr.Arvind  Kumar Sahu and Mohini Sharma  to prepare the students for the Competition.

St. Thomas College, Bhilai Won Inter Collegiate Basketball Tournament

District Level Inter Collegiate Basketball (Men) Tournament was organized on 19th October 2022 at St. Thomas College, Bhilai in which 8 teams participated and St. Thomas College won the tournament. In the Semifinal match St. Thomas College won from Shri Shankaracharya Mahavidyalaya Bhilai by 42 – 12. In the second semifinal match Mansa College, Durg beat Surana College by 20 – 19 and entered in the final. In the final match St. Thomas College won the match from Mansa College, Durg by 60 – 26  and won the trophy of District Level Inter Collegiate Basketball (Men) Tournament. Principal of the College Dr. M. G. Roymon, Administrator, Rev. Fr. Dr. Joshi Varghese and Manager Bishop H. G., Dr. Joseph Mar Dionysius congratulated to all the players and Sports Officer Mr. Kailash Narayan Verma for this achievement. Also Principal of the college declared that Mar Theodosius Memorable Inter Collegiate Basketball tournament will be held in November 2022 and he invited all the teams to participate in the tournament. Mr. Kiranpal Singh, Mr. Vinay Janbandhu, Mr. Mohan, Mr. Vishal and Mr. Mithilesh Singh Thakur were the officials of the tournament. Mr. Amrik Singh Sr. Sports Officer Kalyan College Bhilai was the observer of the tournament. On this occasion Sr. Sports Officer Dr. Naresh Diwan, Dr. Pramod Tiwari, Dr. Lanjewar, Mr. M. M. Tiwari and Mr. Singh were present.

The Training & Placement Office organized a ‘Job Expo’

The Training & Placement Office of St. Thomas College, Bhilai organized a ‘Job Expo’ on career opportunities in SBI Life Insurance. Mr. Shekhar Patel was the resource person on this occasion who thoroughly discussed the Job Profile and future prospects in the said company. He said that SBI Life is a great opportunity for the students during their pursuance of higher studies as it gives them flexibility to work in comfort of their time schedule with significant amount of monetary return and work experience of established company. He also said that working with SBI Life can bring massive exposure to future job enrichments and growth in an individual’s career. More than 100 students from Science, Arts, Commerce and Management backgrounds attended this Job Expo. Dr. M.G. Roymon, Principal and Rev. Father Dr. Joshi Varghese appreciated the effort of the organizing team. Dr. Pratik Kumar Sharma, Ms. Tulika Harshit and Dr. Suruchi Parkey coordinated this programme.
