THREE DAYS SKILL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM ON “CULTIVATION OF OYSTER MUSHROOM”

P.G. Department of Microbiology and Biotechnology, Institutional Innovation Council, Entrepreneurship Development Cell and IQAC jointly organized athree-dayskill development program on “Cultivation of Oyster Mushrooms” in collaboration with Jan Sevak Samiti, NGO, Sector-4; Bhilai. Mr. Dinesh Singh, Director of Jan Sevak Samiti was the resource person for the program. He explained the technique ofgrowing Oyster mushrooms in a simple and cost-effective manner. Mushroom cultivation has emerged as a profitable business with low-cost capital investment.Students were trained for various steps in mushroom cultivation which included spawn preparation, sterilization of required materials, preparation of bags and layering method for maximum mushroom yield. The training program started with a explanatory lecture session about types, importance and applications of mushrooms. On the last day of program, students were trained to prepare spawn through mother culture which is considered as an important requirement for any mushroom cultivation.A total of 44 participants were benefittedby this skill development program. Administrator of the college, Rev. Fr. Dr. Joshi Varghese and Principal, Dr. M.G. Roymon, appreciated the program.

One week Faculty Development Program for newly joined faculties

Department of Education, St. Thomas College, Ruabandha Sector Bhilai in association with IQAC organized one week Faculty Development Program for newly joined faculties. In this program Administrator of the College, Rev. Fr. Dr. Joshi Varghese, Dipti Santosh, Dr. Soniya Popli, Maju Joy, Kanhaiya Pandey, Dr. Reema Dewangan, Dr. Jyotsana Gadpayle, Dr. Anupama Gangrade, and Dr. Sumita Singh discussed various topics to enhance the quality and impact of teaching. Dr. Ankita Deshmukh Asst. Professor, Dept. of Psychology discussed the topic creative problem solving by giving a power point presentation. In the beginning of last day’s session Mr. Netra Gupta Asst. Prof. Department of Mathematics presented a brief report of seven days faculty development program. Principal of the college Dr. M. G. Roymon shared his experience of teaching and highlighted the important qualities of a good teacher. IQAC coordinator Dr. Debjani Mukherjee motivated all the faculties to always do hard work. Head of Edcuation Dept. Dr. Sheeja Thomas appreciated all the presentations and congratulated to all the participants for their active participation. Administrator of the College, Rev. Fr. Dr. Joshi Varghese collected feedback from all the faculties about the Faculty Development Program. The program was conducted by Ms. Punita Sinha Faculty of Dept. of English. After that all the faculties from various departments shared their experience about the program in which Ms. Mohini Sharma from Chemistry Dept. Ms. Varidhi Pandey and Nidhi Shyam from Commerce Dept., Dr. Ritu Mishra from Physics Dept. and Mr. Amitabh Sharma from Dept. of journalism was present. At last Dr. Kiran Bala Asst. Professor Dept. of Economics proposed vote of thanks.

P.G Department of Psychology organize field visit to Kopal Vani Shravan Badhit Aavasiya Vidyalaya, Raipur.

P.G Department of Psychology, St. Thomas College, Bhilai organized  one day field visit and sign language training program at Kopal Vani, school for hearing Impaired. Faculty Padma Sharma introduced the budding psychologists of St. Thomas College to their students.  In the briefing session, faculty of the institute informed the college students that the institute has an infrastructure which they wish to expand with modern facilities. The organization gives speech training to the hearing-impaired children. They also gave training about sign language and meditation process to the students of St. Thomas College.

The School also trains their students in art such as painting and craft making, especially tribal art. The students of St. Thomas College, were exposed to these skill development processes in special children.

Administrator of the college, Fr. Dr. Joshy Varghese appreciated the program and Principal Dr. M.G. Roymon encouraged the department to conduct such training programs. Dr. Debjani Mukherjee, Head, of the department talked about the importance of field visit, training and report writing in the field of psychology. Organizational behaviour ,its functioning and skill development were the areas that the students of psychology were exposed to. Dr. Sumita Singh and Mr. J Maju assistant professors also spoke on the occasion. The program was conducted by Dr. Ankita Deshmukh assistant professor department of Psychology.

Guest lecture and an interactive session on “JOURNEY OF AN ENTREPRENEUR”

Institutional Innovation Council, IQAC, Entrepreneurship Development Cell and Training and Placement Cell Jointly organized a guest lecture and an interactivesessionon “JOURNEY OF AN ENTREPRENEUR” in the college. A popular personality in the Raipur-Bhilai region Mr. Priyank Patel, Owner, Nukkad Café was invited as guest speaker. He runs a chain of Café in Raipur and Bhilai. He shared his journey from being an Engineering graduate to a successful entrepreneur. The main highlight of his café is that the café provides jobs to differently abled and transgender people. The Café group is trying to provide social and economic support to these people. The speaker shared many inspiring stories with the students that motivated him to be an entrepreneur along with offering helping hands to the discriminated people of the society. He motivated students to pursue their dreams and develop their own enterprise so that they can make someone economically independent. He also talked about the hurdles and challenges an entrepreneur face during setting up an enterprise. The whole program was appreciated by Administrator Father Dr. Joshi Varghese, Principal Dr. M.G. Roymon and IIC President Dr. Susan R. Abraham. The program was conducted by Dr. Pratik Kumar Sharma, IIC Convener and Dr. Anubhuti Jha proposed vote of thanks.

National Sports Day celebrated

On occasion of Birth Anniversary of famous Hockey Player Major Dhyan Chand, St. Thomas College, Bhilai celebrated National Sports Day on 29th August, 2022. The program was jointly organized by Department of Sports, NSS and IQAC. Principal of the college Dr. M. G. Roymon gave brief introduction of Major Dhyan Chand  and said that if you want to be healthy and fit then you should do regular exercise and must include sports in your daily routine. First of all Rythmic Zumba and dance was organized for students in supervision of Dr. Anupama Gangrade Asst. Professor, Dept. of Education and Navin Denial student of MA English. Amitabh Sharma Asst. Professor, Dept. of BAJMC organized the games Dog in the Bone and Musical Chair for students. Bombing the City game was organized for all the faculties. At last all the winners were awarded trophies and medals by Principal Dr. M. G. Roymon. On this occasion all the Heads of departments, other faculties and staff members were present. The entire program was conducted by Sports Officer Kailash Narayan Verma and vote of thanks was proposed Mr. Mehendra Ikhar Asst. Professor Dept. of Management Studies.

Career Counseling and Interactive session

The P.G.Department of Microbiology & Biotechnology organized an interaction cum career counseling session for its students.  Prof. Dr. Dinesh Kumar Maheshwari, a renowned Microbiologist from Gurukula Kangir University, Haridwar was the Speaker on the occasion.  Prof. Maheshwari was welcomed by Principal Dr. M.G.Roymon.  Prof. Maheshwari shared his experiences as teacher and supervisor and narrated incidences which exemplified the role of teachers in students lives in the college.

He elaborated on importance of basic knowledge of Microbiology and stressed the role of Biotechnology as a subject of amalgamation of various allied subjects.

Prof. Maheshwari emphasized on career opportunities for Microbiology and Biotechnology and highlighted short term courses in the field of Artificial Intelligence and Bioinformatics.  He advocated students to take up Diploma Courses after their post graduation in subjects which would provide life changing career prospects and opportunities.

Students of both undergraduate and post graduate programs of the department were immensely benefited by the session.  Dr. V.Shanti, Head Dept. of Microbiology & Biotechnology proposed vote of thanks.

Induction Program for newly joined BBA Students

Department of Management Studies, St. Thomas College, Bhilai organized Induction Program for newly joined BBA Students. On this occasion Dr. Susan R. Abraham, Head Dept. of Management Studies gave brief introduction about the department and presented a brief report of BBA course. In her address she said that apart from educational and academic studies every Saturday an Activity is conducted in which students get basic inputs of management education with the help of Power Point Presentation, Group Discussion and Group Activities. Madam specially said that the main objective of activity class is to ensure overall development of students so that students can update themselves according to the present demand of industry. During the program Mr. Mahendra Ikhar, Asst. Professor Dept. of Management Studies provided the basic inputs of Power Point Presentation by giving a presentation.  Principal of the College Dr. M. G. Roymon said that in St. Thomas College, Bhilai, Department of Management Studies was started in the year 1999 with the objective of developing the quality of management within students and now today students of Dept. of Management Studies are successfully working at national and international level. The program was conducted by BBA student Dhairya Gulwani and Technical assistance was given by Adnan Faizy.

76 th Independence Day celebrated

The NSS and NCC unit of St. Thomas College Ruabandha, Bhilai jointly celebrated the 76 th Independence Day with full of joy, patriotism and enthusiasm. Under the program AZADI KA AMRIT MAHOTSAV for completing 75 th years of Independence first of all Principal of College Dr. M. G. Roymon presented a floral tribute to the memorial of freedom fighters at Vande Matram Park and then hoisted the National Flag. By congratulating to staff members and students he said that today the teachers are having very important responsibility of providing practical and ethical education along with theoretical course curriculum. He also motivated students to contribute for the development of nation. On this occasion cultural programs were organized in college conference hall. NSS volunteers Pushkar and
Devjani shared their views on Independence Day. NCC cadets Indesh and Shreya presented group song with sense of patriotism. Amitabh Sharma Assistant Professor Department of Journalism and Mass Communication and Dr. Prateek Sharma, Assistant Professor Department of Commerce also presented their thoughts on this occasion. The program was conducted by Mahendra Ikhar, Assistant Professor Dept. of Management Studies. On this occasion Heads of all the departments, other faculties, NCC Officer Girl Wing, Lt. Dr. Surekha Jawade, NCC Care Taker Boys wing Mr. Santosh Yadav and other staff members were present.

Semester of Department of Physics, St. Thomas College, Bhilai. Under the program Azadi ka Amrit
Mahotsav in Ek Bharat Shreshth Bharat NCC cadets of 37 CG BN Durg were participated in
Independence Day Celebration Parade in which Sakshi Sahu is representing St. Thomas College, Bhilai.
This camp is organized from 1 st August to 16 th August at Delhi. Sakshi increased the honour of St.
Thomas College, Bhilai along with the Hemchand Yadav University and 37 CG BN, Durg. Administrator
of the College Rev. Fr. Dr. Joshi Varghese, Principal of College Dr. M. G. Roymon, NCC Officer Lt. Dr.

Induction Program for Newly admitted students

Induction Program for newly admitted students was organized in St. Thomas College Bhilai was organized on 12th August 2022 in college conference hall. The Chief Guest of this program was Dr. Aruna Palta, Honorable Vice Chancellor Hemchand Yadav Vishvavidyalaya, Durg. First of all, Principal of the college Dr. M. G. Roymon congratulated to all newly admitted students and their parents and said that St. Thomas College, Bhilai is creating new mile stones right from its beginning in the year 1984. Honorable VC madam also congratulated to all newly admitted students and said that you have selected one of the best college of Hemchand Yadav Vishvavidyalaya, Durg and you will see the positive impact of your selection in the coming years. During the program 47 merit holders including 8 Gold Medalists of the year 2020 were awarded by certificates and memento by the chief guest. Mr. Bhawani Verma one of the staff member of St. Thomas College, Bhilai who served the college for 27 years on his retirement he was awarded by certificate and memento.
