Students of St. Thomas College excel in BBA course

Hemchand Yadav Vishwavidyalaya, Durg recently declared the merit list of B.B.A VI Semester examination May-June 2018.  Students of St. Thomas College, Bhilai have brought laurels to the college by securing the highest percentages. Aayush Agrawal secured 1st position (gold medal) in the university. Sanch Agrawal secured 4th position, Shivika Ahuja secured 6th position and Mahima Esther Obed secured 8th position. The excellent academic ambience and the innovative teaching and learning process of the college have always helped the students to excel in academics. College Administrator, V. Rev. Fr. George Mathew Ramban, Principal, Dr. M.G. Roymon and HOD, Department of Management Studies, Dr. Susan R. Abraham congratulated the merit holders.

Congratulations Ms. Katha Sanyal

Katha Sanyal of BSc Part II achieved the High Commendation Award at Drishti National Youth Summit. The First Ever Plastic Free Conference held in Bilaspur on January, 2020.  Summit was inaugurated by the Honorable Minister of Health in Chhattisgarh, T.S. Singh Deo. Katha was recognised for her thorough research about Japan’s policy in accordance to the health care system and Nation’s Action Plan of Japanese Government to prevent Global Pandemics. The event followed the concept of Model United Nations (MUN) and Youth Parliament. More than 250 delegates participated in the same in this submit. The St. Thomas College fraternity congratulates her for this achievement and wish her success in all endeavours and appreciates Diksha Dubey (BSc II) and Danish Patil (BSc I) for participating in the summit.

सेंट थॉमस महाविद्यालय में स्वामी विवेकानंद की 157 वी जयंती का आयोजन

सेंट थॉमस महाविद्यालय कि एनएसएस इकाई ने युग पुरुष एवं युवाओं के प्रेरणा स्त्रोत स्वामी विवेकानंद की 157 वी जयंती पर एक विशेष कार्यक्रम का आयोजन  किया| स्वामी विवेकानंद ने आधुनिक भारत में युवाओं के सर्वांगीण विकास के लिए एक विशेष भूमिका निभाई| कार्यक्रम के आरम्भ में मुख्य अतिथि महाविद्यालय  के प्राचार्य डॉ. एम. जी. रोईमोन, प्रशासक रेवरेंट फादर जॉर्ज मैथ्यू रम्भान एवं एनएसएस कार्यक्रम अधिकारी महेंद्र इखार ने स्वामी विवेकानंद की तस्वीर पर पुष्प अर्पित कर नमन किया| एनएसएस कार्यक्रम अधिकारी महेंद्र इखार ने बताया कि स्वामी विवेकानंद को आधुनिक भारत में उनकी अमेरिका के शिकागो में दिए गये भाषणके कारण विशेष रूप से पहचान मिली| प्राचार्य डॉ. एम. जी. रोईमोन ने कहा कि स्वामी विवेकानंद ने 25 वर्ष की आयु में ही अपना घर छोड़कर देश के स्वाधीनता आन्दोलन में अंग्रेजों के विरुद्ध संग्राम में युवाओं को देश सेवा करने एवं समाज के उत्थान के लिए कार्य करने कि प्रेरणा दी| रेवरेंट फादर जॉर्ज मैथ्यू रम्भान ने कहा कि आज की युवा पीढ़ी को स्वामी विवेकानंद के आदर्शों पर चलकर देश के विकास में सहयोग देना चाहिए| इस अवसर पर एनएसएस स्वयंसेवक आयुष देवांगन ने आजकल चल रहे नये प्रकार के नशे इ – सिगरेट के दुष्प्रभावों से अवगत कराते हुए आज के युवाओं को इस नशे से बचने के लिए प्रेरित किया| कार्यक्रम के दौरान एनएसएस स्वयंसेवक बिधांशुक दत्ता, सृष्टि मित्रा. संस्कृति भारद्वाज एवं वर्षा रानी वैष्णव ने सात दिवसीय विशेष शिविर के अपने अनुभव को साझा किया|

The 36th Annual Sports Meet

The 36th Annual Sports Meet was organized in St. Thomas College on 10.01.2020.  Shri Vijay Bhagel, Member of Parliament, Durg Dist. Graced the occasion as Chief Guest.

On this occasion, Shri Baghel insisted on making Bhilai a Sports City also as it is already known as Steel City.  In his address, he congratulated the students of college for representing Bhilai in both National & International Sports.  He called upon more and more students to take sports as their career and excel in whatever field they choose.  The Administrator of the College, Rt. Rev. Fr. George Mathew Ramban in his presidential address said that the college makes constant efforts to encourage students in sports apart from academic activities.

The Annual Sports Meet of the college started with a welcome speech by Principal Dr. M.G.Roymon.  He called upon all the students to take maximum participation in various events and also suggested that management is on the process of constructing an Indoor-stadium very soon.  The Chief Guest was welcomed with a presentation of a beautiful dance based on Chattisgarh Folk song.  Various track and field events were organized during the sports event.

The whole meet was organized under the coordination of Sports Secretary of Student Union Council of the college.  On this occasion, Student Union Council In-charge, Dr. Suja Varghese, President Ms. Sabya Neha Tirkey, all faculty members and students were present.  The sports meet was successfully conducted under the leadership of Sports Officer Mr. Kailash Narayan Verma.

The whole program was conducted by Dr. Sapna Sharma, Head, Deptt. of Commerce & Mr. Pratik Kumar Sharma, Deptt. of Commerce and Mr. K.N.Verma, Sports Officer & Mr. Vikas Singh, Sports Secretry proposed the vote of thanks.

NSS Seven Days Special Camp is inaugurated at Selud

St. Thomas College NSS seven days special camp inaugurated at Karma Bhavan, Selud. Chief Guest of this program was College Administrator very reverent father George Mathew Rambhan. Secretary of Selud Jila Panchayat Mr. Mahendra Sahu was special guest of the program. Other guests were Mrs. Daljit korada, principal Girls Hr.Sec School and Mrs. Sheela Sharma, Principal Boys Hr.Sec .School, Selud. First of all the guests presented floweral Tribute to National Service Scheme Icon Swami Vivekananda. St. Thomas NSS program officer Mr. Mahendra Ikhar discussed in his welcome speech about the seven days schedule of special camp. He also said that the basic objective of this camp is women safety and girl hygiene awareness especially for village girls. Very reverent father George Mathew Rambhan said that real India lives in the villages and we all should always try to provide best services to villagers as much as possible. Principal Dr.  M. G. Roymon motivated the volunteers by saying that earlier also St. Thomas NSS unit has organized camp at Selud and volunteers are very enthusiastic for giving their best in the camp. Selud Jila Panchayat Secretary Mr. Mahendra Sahu said that along with girl’s safety it is also equally important that boys should also aware that they will respect women and girls. On this occasion college staff members J. Majju, Kailash Narayan Verma, Kanhaiya Pandey, Chandan Dekate, Dr. Rincy B. Abraham and Pratik Sharma were also present. Vote of thanks was proposed by NSS Secretary Varhsa Rani Vaishnav and program was conducted by Aliya Anjum.

Workshop on Design, Graphics and Editing

A Good Editing is one that can’t be seen

A workshop on Design, Graphics and Editing was organised by the Journalism and Mass Communication Department of St. Thomas College, Ruabandha  in the college premises. 

Mr. Devendra Shukla, who specializes in documentaries and editing introduced the students to film-making, editing and graphics. He shared his experience and knowledge with the students through a lecture and his documentaries. All the students of the Journalism and Mass Communication Department participated in the event under the supervision of Principal, Dr. M.G Roymon and Dr. Aparna Ghosh, HOD of JMC.

The workshop was started off with college prayer, followed by a Welcome speech by faculty member Dr. Aditi Namdev. Then the guest began his lecture about editing. He said that a good editing is one that cannot be seen. He told the students about the various types of cut in editing. He also showed various documentaries that he had made. The students were inspired by this workshop and gained much knowledge. Faculty members Md. Zakir Hussain and Dr. Aditi Namdev honoured the guest on behalf of the entire college. The workshop was successfully coordinated by Silvi Banerjee and Saba Khan.

Awareness Rally by NCC Unit

NCC Unit of St. Thomas College Bhilai organized an awareness rally in the Ruabandha sector on the occasion of World Aids Day. Principal of the college, Dr. M.G. Roymon flagged off the rally in which all the senior wing and senior division cadets actively participated. The cadets cameup with the slogan “Stop AIDS, Keep the promise”. Cadets organized World Aids Day campaign, designed to offer support for those living with the disease, education for those trying to prevent transmission of the disease, and remembrance for those who have lost their battle to HIV or AIDS. College Administrator, Rt. Rev. Fr. George Mathew Ramban, appreciated this initiative by the cadets. ANO Lt. Dr. Surekha Jawade and Lt. Dr. Laxman Prasad were also present on this occasion.

Constitution Day Celebration

Every year Constitution Day is celebrated on 26th November in the College. St. Thomas College, Bhilai observed this day on Tuesday 26th November 2019. The Chief Guest for the Occasion was Principal Dr. M.G. Roymon. Other dignitaries present were, Student Union In-charge Dr. Suja Varghese, Dean Academics Dr. Vinita Thomas and President of Student Union council Ms. Sabya Neha Tirkey.

Dr. Suja Varghese gave the welcome speech. Dr. M.G. Roymon Principal of the College in his Presidential speech emphasized students to follow honestly the Preamble of the constitution and lead the country to the path of success and understand the motive behind today’s celebration, Principal administered the preamble of the constitution and led everyone in taking the pledge. The NCC /NSS Cadets and other students of the college presented a informative knowledge of the day through documentary film. The program was graced by maximum number of staff members and students. Ms. Pushpita Saha beautifully conducted the program.

ST. THOMAS COLLEGE EMERGES WINNERS AT HEMCHAND YADAV VISHWAVIDYALAYA, YOUTH FESTIVAL, 2019

The talented brigade of St. Thomas College, Bhilai added shine to its sparkling fame by representing itself in inter-Collegiate Youth Festival held at various Colleges organized by Hemchand Yadav University, Durg. The Competitions in various categories were Literary events and elocution, theatre, Skits, Dance Fine Arts, Light Music, Debate, Classical And many more .  The students participated in various catagories and got selected in Inter-University Level Competition. Miss Anushka Pandey excelled in Light (Vocal, Indian),  in Classical Vocal (Solo)Miss Sanskriti  Sen got the opportunity to represent the inter- University level,  in group Song  Miss Renuka Tripathi, Miss Aunshka Pandey, Miss .Shrishti Singh, Mr. Shubhanshu Tiwari , Miss Sanskriti Sen and Mr. Mehul Sharma got selected. Debate (against) Ms. Soumya  Chelak , in Fine arts and  Poster Making Miss Minal Dehri, ,garnered glory . The budding artists of St. Thomas brought laurels to the college and University by bagging numerous position in these competitions. On this triumphant accomplishment, The College Management, Manager Bishop His Grace Dr. Joseph Mar Dionysius, College Administrator Rev. George Mathew Ramban and Principal Dr. M.G. Roymon, Deans Academics Dr. Vinita Thomas, and other staff members appreciated efforts of the students in adding another feather to the cap of St. Thomas.  The college also congratulated the   untiring efforts of the convener Dr. Jayshree Balasubramanian and all the members of Cultural Commiittee on this momentous victory.

National Unity Day Celebration

On today 31st October 2019, St. Thomas College celebrated National Unity Day and took a pledge for national unity of the country. Principal Dr. M. G. Roymon said that in the year 2014, the newly elected central government passed an ordinance for celebration of national unity day. Today is the 144th Birth Anniversary of Iron Man Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel. He played a significant role for the freedom of India against British Rule and also he contributed for unity and integration of India. For his valuable and memorable contribution 31st October is celebrated as National Unity Day from the year 2014 onwards. After this program St. Thomas College organized a Speech Competition titled “Vigilance Awareness Week, 28th October to 02nd November 2019” in collaboration with Vigilance Department, Sail B.S.P. Gurpreet Kaur got secured first position in the competition, while Anurag Kumar and Yoshita Sahu secured Second and Third position respectively. On this auspicious occasion the college Administrator Very Rev. Fr. George Mathew Ramban, Dr. Vinita Thomas, Dean Academics, Dr. Jayshree Balasubramaniyam, Heads from various departments, Professors and students were present.
