Faculty Development Workshop

A faculty development program was conducted under the aegis of the Internal Quality Assurance Cell at St. Thomas College, Bhilai.The speaker was Dr. Johnsey Thomas, clinical psychologist and a well being trainer from Aster Prime Hospital Hyderabad. The topic of the day long workshop was ‘You are the lighthouse’ and main focus was on teaching techniques, changing role of a teacher and communication skills. Faculty participated in management games also. The workshop was presided by the Manager Bishop Dr Joseph Mar Dionysius who enlightened the gathering regarding the inner powers a teacher has and the optimum use of it. Principal Dr. M. G. Roymon appraised the participants on the value of such program and how it helps in the growth of a teacher.Dr. Debjani Mukhejee, convenor IQAC, welcomed the gathering and conducted the proceedings. Rev Fr. George Mathew Ramban and all HODs attended the program along with faculty.

Annual Day and Cultural Fest- Aagaam 2020 celebrated

St. Thomas College Bhilai celebrated the 36th Annual Prize distribution Ceremony with much gusto and enthusiasm. Shri Tamradhwaj Sahu (Minister of Home Affairs) and Prof. Aruna Palta, (Vice Chancellor, Hemchand Yadav Vishwavidyalaya, Durg) were invited as chief guest on this auspicious occasion. College Administrator Rev. Father Gee Varghese Ramban, Principal Dr. M.G.Roymon, Student Union Professor In-charge Dr. Suja Varghese, President Student Union Council Sabya Neha Tirkey and all other office bearers were welcomed with floral bouquet. Chief Guest Hon’ble Shri Tamradhwaj Sahu said that this type of cultural programmes develops cultural and educational quality within the students. These programmes are the symbol that we all are members of one family.  He highlighted the present educational system and said that we will have to decide our aim by himself. On this occasion, Hon’ble Prof. Aruna Palta said that St. Thomas College has created a special image in education as well as cultural activities.  College take cares all the aspects of students including education, culture and their career objectives. Students now are very smart so they should make their objective according to their present requirements so that they will be successful.  Administrator   Rev. Father Gee Varghese Ramban appreciated the overall programme. Principal Dr. M.G.Roymon read the yearly report of college and said that for 36 years in long duration the college has developed a different image in academics, sports. National and International activities. The programme was organized in successful leadership of Principal. Student Union Prof. In-charge Dr. Suja Varghese welcomed all the guests.  Students who got gold Medal in Hemchand Yadav Vishwavidyalaya were awarded by guests.  After this, all Kalaprathiba, Cultural academics, sports, NCC & NSS students were awarded by certificates.  Abey Mathew Memorial Award was given to Mehul Sharma, B.Com final year, C.Mohan, PGDCA and Rohit Shrivastava memorial trophy was again given to Mehul Sharma, Chandransh Khandelwal Rolling Trophy to Lotus House, Kalwaljeet Singh Saini rolling trophy to lilly house, Khandelwal memorial award was given to Upasana Kurve and K.R.Raghavan memorial award was given to Nisha Jambhulkar.  This year Alumni felicitation award was started in which CA Ananad Jumnani in academics, P.T.Ullas Kumar  in cultural and M.C.Benjamin were awarded in sports category. Himanshu Khandelwal was awarded for contribution in social welfare. Chief guest awarded to all the successful students. On this occasion, interesting games and activities were conducted between students. The programme was conducted by Dr. Susan R.Abraham and vote of thanks was presented by Sabya Neha Tirkey. On this occasion, all teaching and non teaching staff of college, parents and students were present.

Three Day workshop organised by Entrepreneur Cell

The Entrepreneur Cell of St. Thomas College Bhilai ‘under the aegis of CITCON organised a Three day workshop with an objective to develop Entrepreneurship Skills among the students of the college.

Er. P.K. Nimonkar, state head of (CITCON) and Professor Anil Kalele Associate Faculty and Mr. Prakash Markale Ex. Deputy Manager of CITCON were the Resource Person Other dignitaries present were Administrator of the College Rt. Rev.Fr. George Mathew Ramban, Principal Dr. M. G. Roymon, The august gathering was welcomed by the Principal of the college. Speaking on the occasion he said that such workshops provide ample opportunity for the students to choose between job and self independence through startup business. In his Presidential address Administrator of the college, Rt. Rev.Fr. George Mathew Ramban appreciated the efforts of the cell and hoped that the workshop will provide a road map for the students who wish to go for start up business.

 The spokesperson for the first session was Er. P.K. Nimonkar, state head of (CITCON) .He highlighted on the importance of communication in today’s scenario. He threw light on the positive aspects of good communication and how it can inspire people to plan and promote business.The second session was conducted by Professor Anil Kalele, who elaborated on the topic “Effective communication skills and steps of Entrepreneurship”.  He spoke about the relevance of appropriate attitude and behaviour for  becoming a successful businessman. Mr. Kalele emphasised on the topic through various anecdotes. Mr. Suprabhat Sheel, Associate Prof.,CITCON spoke about the importance of entrepreneurial motivation which is vital step in transforming an ordinary person into a good businessman .

The program was conducted by Prateek Sharma (Dept of Commerce) and vote of thanks was proposed by Dr. Sunita Kshatriya (Dept of Commerce) .Dr .Aparna Ghosh, (Dept. Of Economics),member of the Entrepreneur cell of the college also extended co-operation for the smooth conduct of the three day workshop.

Live Telecast of LOKAVANI

Honorable Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh Mr. Bhupesh Baghel presented today his views on the topic Exam management and employment opportunities for youths in Chhattisgarh at live telecast of Akashvani Raipur in the programme Lokvani. This programme was telecasted live by Akashvani Raipur and all the news channels of Chhattisgarh. Staff and students of St. Thomas College inculcated the suggestions and techniques discussed by Honorable Chief Minister and took inputs from his exam management planning and scheduling.  He said that fear to get fail in the examination is the biggest hurdle to become successful in the examination. Without getting feared students should perform well in examination by proper time management. And in this, parent’s support and their help give the great motivation to students in examination. Principal Dr. M. G. Roymon said that Honorable Chief Minister has regularly launched so many new employment oriented schemes for the youths of Chhattisgarh. On this occasion staff members Dr. Laxman Prasad, Santosh Kumar Miri, Kailash Narayan Verma, Mahendra Ikhar, Dr. Soniya Popli, Dr. Shabnam Khan, Dr. Jyotsana Gadpayle, Dr. Sheeja Thomas, Chandan Dekate, Dr. Jayashree Balasubramaniyam and Students were present.

Students of PG Department of Psychology St. Thomas College visited Kopalvani, Raipur

The students of M.A  Psychology, St. Thomas College, Bhilai  visited Kopalvani, Raipur, a school and college for hearing impaired students.

The Director Mr. Kundan Singh Thakur and the Principal of the institute Mrs. Padma Sharma made the students aware of the teaching methods of hearing impaired students. Kopalvani also provides hostel facility to students.  On the whole it was a very enriching experience for the students who were accompanied by Dr. Debjani Mukherjee (H.O.D  of  Psychology) , Dr. Sumita Singh( Assistant Professor)  and Ms. Sakshi Sahani  ( Assistant Professor).

The Principal, St. Thomas College, Bhilai,  Dr. M.G. Roymon and Administrator Rev. Fr. George Mathew Ramban expressed his happiness that students were given first hand demonstration and training dealing with hearing impaired students .

M.Sc. Students Excel in M.Sc. Chemistry Course

Hemchand Yadav Vishwavidyalaya, Durg recently declared the merit list of M.Sc. Chemistry VI Semester examination May-June 2018.  Students of St. Thomas College, Bhilai have brought laurels to the college by securing the highest percentages. Manisha Chandra secured 1st position (Gold Medal) in the university. Ekta Singh secured 2nd position, Sandhya Painkra secured 3rd position and Usha Choudhary secured 9th position. The excellent academic ambience and the innovative teaching and learning process of the college have always helped the students to excel in academics. College Administrator, V. Rev. Fr. George Mathew Ramban, Principal, Dr. M.G. Roymon and HOD, Department of Chemistry, Dr. James Mathew congratulated the merit holders.

Psychology Students Shine In The Hemchand Yadav University Merit list

The M.A Psychology students of St. Thomas College, Bhilai were the brightest stars in the merit list 2019 published by the Hemchand Yadav University. Out of the 10 positions of the university merit list 7 were bagged by the students of this college. Parul Gupta came first with 82% followed by Sujata Mary in the second position and Padma Bachani in the third position. Shreya Jain, Priyanka Kumari, Vaibhavi Ingle and Sangeeta Maya were placed fourth, Fifth, sixth and nineth respectively. It is a proud moment for Dr. Debjani Mukherjee Head of the department, Dr. Sumita Singh assistant professor and Miss Sakshi Sahni assistant professor, because this was the first master’s batch that passed out of the college. The management of the college, Principal      Dr. M.G. Roymon and Administrator Rev. Fr. George Mathew Ramban congratulated the students and the department for the wonderful results.

Emerges winners at Hemchand Yadav Vishwavidyalaya, Youth Festival, 2019

The talented brigade of St. Thomas College, Bhilai added shine to its sparkling fame by representing itself in inter-Collegiate Youth Festival held at various Colleges organized by Hemchand Yadav University, Durg. The Competitions in various categories were Literary events and elocution, theatre, Skits, Dance Fine Arts, Light Music, Debate, Classical And many more .  The students participated in various catagories and got selected in Inter-University Level Competition. Miss Anushka Pandey excelled in Light (Vocal, Indian),  in Classical Vocal (Solo)Miss Sanskriti  Sen got the opportunity to represent the inter- University level,  in group Song  Miss Renuka Tripathi, Miss Aunshka Pandey, Miss .Shrishti Singh, Mr. Shubhanshu Tiwari , Miss Sanskriti Sen and Mr. Mehul Sharma got selected. Debate (against) Ms. Soumya  Chelak , in Fine arts and  Poster Making Miss Minal Dehri, ,garnered glory . The budding artists of St. Thomas brought laurels to the college and University by bagging numerous position in these competitions. On this triumphant accomplishment, The College Management, Manager Bishop His Grace Dr. Joseph Mar Dionysius, College Administrator Rev. George Mathew Ramban and Principal Dr. M.G. Roymon, Deans Academics Dr. Vinita Thomas, and other staff members appreciated efforts of the students in adding another feather to the cap of St. Thomas.  The college also congratulated the   untiring efforts of the convener Dr. Jayshree Balasubramanian and all the members of Cultural Commiittee on this momentous victory.

Yearly Cultural Programme KALA PRATIBHA started with full of energy and zeal

The yearly Cultural Programme KALA PRATIBHA started with musical environment in the St. Thomas College. On today’s occasion the chief guest was very renowned person from the music and art industry, famous violinist and music director Mr. Kirti Madhav Vyas. First of all convener of the Program Dr. Jayashri Balasubramaniyam Head Department of Zoology, gave her welcome speech. Principal, Dr. M.G. Roymon said in his presidential address that along with the educational culture St. Thomas College is very rich in terms of cultural ability of students and we always provide platform to talented students so that they can make their bright future in the field of art and music. College Administrator very reverent father George Mathew Rambhan said that Art and cultural activities with studies play an important role in the overall development of students. Chief Guest Mr. Kirti Madhav Vyas said that Sent Thomas College is blessed by god for having such a large number of students with huge talent in art and culture. He said that many of his students from St. Thomas College who are successful in country and abroad in art and culture.  On this occasion Co-Convener Dr. Sapna Sharma from Department of Commerce, other faculty members and students were present. The program was conducted by Dr. V Shanti head Department of Microbiology and vote of thanks was proposed by assistant professor Miss Aditi Namdev from Journalism department.

Republic Day Celebration

Republic Day was celebrated in The Vandamatram Park of the College by hosting the Tricolor Flag. Principal In-charge

Dr. Vinita Thomas hoisted the flag and addressed the gathering. Dr. Thomas exhorted that every Republic Day is precious and everyday in the life of our republic is precious. This was followed by speeches by NCC Cadets and NSS volunteers Arti Kumari, Anjali Jha, Yoshita Sahu, Ayush Devangan, Bhupendra Singh and Prachi Kamle. The Patriotic Song performed a by Arti Kumari and group.  Dr. Neetu Raj Asst.  Prof. Dept of Zoology expressed her views on the occasion. She asserted all present to do designated karma with great dedication, perfection and determination and demonstrate love towards Mother India. The programme was conducted by  Deepti Santosh .
