World Rare Disease Day

The P.G. Department of Microbiology and Biotechnology organized a program to observe “World Rare Disease Day” in collaboration with Microbiology Society of India unit to increase the awareness about rare diseases by exploring rare disease reports that include information on symptoms, causes, treatments and clinical trials. The department observed the day by arranging power point presentations on 26 different rare diseases and P.G. students of the department enthusiastically participated in the activity. Before the commencement of program, Dr. V. Shanthi; HOD, P.G. Department of Microbiology and Biotechnology gave a brief introduction about the topic. She spoke about the importance of spreading awareness in the community. The program was appreciated by administrator Dr. Joshi Varghese and Principal Dr. M.G. Roymon. The program was followed by Certificate distribution ceremony at the hands of principal and all department staff.

Certificate Programme with Bajaj Finserv. Ltd

The Training & Placement Office of St. Thomas College, Bhilai under the esteemed supervision and guidance of Administrator, Rev. Father Dr. Joshi Varghese and Principal, Dr. M.G. Roymon is organising 100 Hours Certificate Programme with Bajaj Finserv. Ltd. The online inaugural session of this certificate programme was organised on Tuesday, 28.02.2024. The agenda behind this programme was to make the participants aware about the programme schedule for 100 hours of learning as well as brief them about the advantages and learning outcome of this certificate programme.  The programme was attended by Rev. Father Dr. Joshi Varghese and Dr. M.G. Roymon along with the 30 participants registered for this certification. The inaugural session was organised & coordinated by TPO Convener Dr. Sunita Kshatriya.

Blessing Ceremony for UG & PG Level final Year students

St. Thomas College, Ruabandha, Bhilai, organized Blessing Ceremony for the UG and PG Level final Year students and Felicitation Ceremony of the 48 university Rank Holders for the Academic Session 2022-23 in a spiritual ambience. Dr. K. Subramaniam, Member of State Planning Commission C.G. was invited as the Chief Guest. Dr. M.G Roymon extended a warm welcome to the distinguished guests. Addressing the students, Dr. Subramanian said that the students of St. Thomas College should be proud of this renowned College of Chhattisgarh that has the best state- of- the- art and provides ample opportunity for the students to acquire quality education.  Motivating the students, he further said that with the new found education students should use it to make a difference in the world. Manager Bishop of the college, His Grace Alexios Mar Eusebius presided over the function. His grace in his benediction speech focused on the importance of education in student’s life. Blessing the students, His grace exhorted them to unleash the potential within   and use their skills and knowledge to foster a positive impact in the society. Dr. Subramaniam and the Manager Bishop of the college congratulated all university rank holders for showcasing an exceptional display of academic excellence and appreciated all the faculty members for their relentless efforts in nurturing the students. Administrator of the college Fr. Dr. Joshi Varghese also graced the ceremony and applauded the efforts of the college in carving a niche in the landscape of Hemchand Yadav Vishwavidyalaya.  University rank holders were felicitated by the college .The college expressed gratitude to all final Year students by presenting a token of remembrance. Final year students from Undergraduate and Postgraduate level shared their views about the college. The Programme was conducted by Dr. Susan .R Abraham ( Asst. Prof.  Dept. of Management). Bhilai Steel Plant Visit

Department of Management Studies, St. Thomas College, Ruabandha Bhilai in association with PG Department of Mathematics and Computer Science jointly organized one day Industrial visit to Bhilai Steel Plant on 24th February, 2024. 20 students from management department, 10 students from PG Department of Mathematics and Computer Science and 2 faculties participated in this visit. The chief instructors and coordinators of this visit were Mr. A. K. Tiwari and S. K. Sinha from Human Resource Development department, Bhilai Steel Plant. During the visit students observed modern Blast Furnace 8, Steel Melting Shop 3 and Rail Mill and observed very deeply the melting process of Iron Ore and conversion of raw material in the various types of finished goods of Steel. Principal of the college Dr. M. G. Roymon said that to provide the real and live experience of industrial environment these types of industrial visit are conducted by St. Thomas College on regular intervals. Administrator of the College Rev. Fr. Dr. Joshi Varghese appreciated the visit organized by Management and PG Department of Mathematics and Computer Science and said that along with theoretical studies with the help of these types of visits the practical knowledge of students is also updated . Dr. Susan R. Abraham, Head Department of Management Studies and Dr. Anupama Gangrade, Asst. Professor Department of Education played an important role to organize this visit.

Management Training Program and Scholarship Examination

Dept. of Management Studies, St. Thomas College Ruabandha, Bhilai in collaboration with DMTIMS NAVI MUMBAI organized Management Training Program and Scholarship Examination for BBA Second and Final Year Students. Dr. Susen Varghese, Director, DMTIMS NAVI MUMBAI was the keynote speaker and training expert of this program. Mr. Mahendra Ikhar, Assistant Professor, Dept. of Management Studies presented an overview of the training program. Principal of the college Dr. M. G. Roymon congratulated the management department for organizing such a nice and innovative training program. Administrator Fr. Dr. Joshi Varghese gave his best wishes for the successful program. Dr. Susan R. Abraham, Head, Dept. of Management Studies said that management department is always committed towards the overall personality development of students. On this occasion Ms. Priyanka Ganjir Assistant Professor, Dept. of Management Studies and students of BBA Second and Final Year were present. The program was successfully conducted by Ms. Tanisha Chouhan, Student of BBA Second Year. All the participants were awarded participation certificates in the program.

“GYAAN DAAN” AT GOVERNMENT PRIMARY SCHOOL RUABANDHA

The PG Department of Economics St. Thomas College Bhilai has been concluded as a Community Service “GYAAN DAAN” at Government Primary School Ruabandha. The initiative taken by the Department from 2016 to till date with a view to provide Free of Cost Service to society as a Gyaan Daan. This academic session started from August 2023 to February 2024. B.A students of Economics Dhiriti , Tanushree , Prabhjot of BA 2nd year and Muskan, Syed Suleiman,  Kritika and Tripti of BA 1st year engaged in teaching in primary students. To create interest among kids BA students not only engaged them in the academics but also involved them in the extracurricular activities. This program has been successfully carried out with the Praiseworthy co-operation of school teachers Head Mistress Mrs. Sarita Mandare and other staffs. Administrator Dr. Joshi Varghese and Principal Dr. M.G.Roymon of St. Thomas College Bhilai appreciated the admirable service provided to primary school. For smooth conduction of this service continuous supported and guided by HOD of the Department Dr. Aparna Ghosh, faculties Dr. Kiran Bala Das and Miss Aparna Dutta.

St. Thomas College students maintain Legacy of Excellence in Academics

As per the notification released by Hemchand Yadav Vishwavidyalaya, Durg. 48 Students of St. Thomas College Ruabandha, Bhilai have secured prominent position in the University Merit List for the academic Session 2022-23. 8 Students earned 1st position and secured Gold Medal. Among the Students who secured Gold Medal are Ms. Sukanya Anandita Jena of (B.A), Ms. Bhubaneshwari Bagh of (BBA),Ms. Bhavna Bhandari of (B.Com),Ms. Omika Jena of (B.C.A), Ms. Anushka Talukdar of M.Sc (Biotechnology),Ms. Monica Dalal of (M.Sc-Chemistry), Ms. Pratiksha Pandey of (M.A-Psychology) and Ms. Bipasha Ray Sokhey of (MA English).It is glorious moment for the college that other than 8 gold medal, 40 students has secured prominent position in the University Merit list at UG and PG Level. In B.A Ms. Astha Mishra secured 2nd position, Ms. Shivani Awasthi 3rd , Mr. Nitish Singh Thakur 4th ,Ms. Suman Bhoi 5th , Ms. Kashish Karia 7th , Ms. Aishwarya Xalxo 8th and Ms. Leeza Lowanshi secured 9th position. The students of Management Studies have also excelled in the University exams. Ms. Koena Murthy secured 4th position, Mr. Ayur Rao Mahajan stood 9th and Ms. Yashasvi Dubey secured 10th position. In B.Com Ms. Purnima Upadhyay stood 4th and Ms. Komal Karia bagged 9th position. Ms. Aparna Mahobiya of BCA secured 2nd position and Ms. Riya Dutta Sharma of B.Sc got 4th position. It is a proud moment for the College that in the PG Department of Psychology, all the 10 positions in university merit list were secured by St. Thomas College students. Ms. Riya Maitry got 2nd position; Ms. Palak Agrawal secured 3rd position, Ms. Praniti Mandavi 4th, Ms. Shraddha Verma 5th, Mr. Sudhir Verma 6th, Ms. Muskan Gupta 7th, Ms. Megha Merin Mathew 8th, Ms. Shruti Sengupta 9th and Ms.Jyoti Yadav stood 10th. In M.Sc Biotechnology Ms. Sharon Sunil Samuel stood 2nd, Ms. Katha Sanyal 3rd, Ms. Vasudha Singh 4th, Ms. Prachi Thakur 8th, Mr. Shikhar Mathur 9th,

Mr. Harsh Kumar Sahu from M.Sc Microbiology secured 6th position and Ms. Shalini Joshi stood 6th in M.Sc Zoology. From the PG Department of Mathematics Ms. Mansi Vankhede secured 6th position, Ms. Jagriti Dewangan got 7th and Ms. K. Riya Naidu was 9th in the University Merit list. Ms. Dhanlaxmi Painkra of M.Com got 4th position, followed by Ms. Anupama Bhagat 5th and Ms. Pragya Bhagat got 7th position. In M.A. English Ms. Jyoti Verma secured 2nd position, Ms. Rimpi Kumari 3rd , Ms. Shruti Daniel 5th and Ms. Aishwarya Sahu secured 7th position. Manager Bishop of the College, H.G. Annual Prize Distribution Ceremony and Cultural Fest “Aagam”

St. Thomas College, Bhilai celebrated the 39th Annual Prize Distribution Ceremony and Cultural FEST –Aagam in a jubilant way. The Chief Guest of the Annual Day Celebration was Dr. Aruna Palta, the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Hemchand Yadav Vishwavidyalaya, and Durg. Addressing the gathering Hon’ble Vice Chancellor said that, St. Thomas College students are known in the entire region of Chhattisgarh for their outstanding performance in Curricular and Extracurricular activities. Madam applauded the efforts of the College in imparting excellent education to the students and enabling them to carve a niche for them. The Annual Day was presided by the Manager Bishop of the College, His Grace Alexios Mar Eusebius. In his Presidential Address, His Grace said that St. Thomas College stands as a distinguishing institution with its rich heritage and deep rooted tradition. Enumerating the contribution and achievements of the college, His Grace said that the college lays a robust foundation for its students enabling them to confidently embrace a significant global role in the years to come. Principal of the college, Dr. M.G. Roymon extended a warm welcome to the esteemed gathering and presented the Annual Report of the College briefing the achievements and plethora of activities that took place in the academic session. Administrator of the college Fr. Dr. Joshi Varghese and Rev. Fr. Aju Varghese also graced the occasion. Ms. Maya Yadav, Counsellor Ruabandha, was also present for the Annual Day Celebrations. The program was followed by prize distribution ceremony for the students who excelled in Academics, Sports, Cultural, NCC and NSS. Endowments in the form of cash prize were given to the meritorious students at UG and PG level. Rolling trophy was given to Lotus House for the best house of the Annual Sports Meet. Ms. Nupur Sanjana Dan of B. A- III was felicitated with Kalapratibha Samaan Rolling Trophy for her outstanding performance in various Cultural Events. The most exhilarating show of the day was Cultural Fest “Aagam” Students enthralled the audience with their mesmerizing Dance and Classic Fashion Show. The entire program was spectacular display of talent and fervor.  The programme was conducted by Dr. Shiny Mendonce, Dr.V Shanti and Ms. Deepti Santosh. Vote of thanks was proposed by Dr. Sheeja Varkey.

Valedictory Programme on “Career option in Civil Services”

The Civil Services Aspirants Club of St Thomas College, Bhilai organized their Valedictory Program on ‘Career option in Civil Services’.
The Guest of Honour for the programme was Dr. Bhupendra kuldeep, Registrar, Hemchand Yadav Vishwavidyalaya, Durg (C.G).
At the outset, Principal Dr M G.Roymon welcomed all the dignitaries and aspirants to the valedictory session. In his welcome address, he congratulated the Organising Committee Members for the successful organization of the Certificate Programme and advised the aspirants to work hard with dedication and commitment to take Civil Services as their Career Option.
Rev.Fr. Dr. Joshi Varghese, Diocesan Education Officer and Administrator, St. Thomas College, while addressing the students appreciated the aspirants for taking an interest in the course which will not only help them in their profession but also develop their personalities.
The Guest of Honour of the programme, Dr Bhupendra Kuldeep, addressed the participants with anecdotes, life lessons and real-life examples that he had put in his areas of expertise to achieve success.
He further emphasized that career decision is one of the most significant decisions in one’s life and therefore, it must not be taken under parents’ compulsion or peer pressure. He also advised instead of waiting for the right time, start considering every moment as the right time to achieve their goals.
Dr. Sheeja Varkey Convenor of Civil Services Aspirants Club gave a summary report of the fifteen days programme and highlighted the session with Mr. Vinay Singh, Programme Coordinator Tejas IAS Academy, Bhilai, Dr Uday Pratap Singh, Dr Dharmendra Gaur, Dr B P. Singh, Mr Sudesh Sharma, Mr Rakesh Jha, Mr Surendra Khandal and Mr Avanish Verma faculty from IAS academies.
The aspirants also shared their experience and learning of the whole programme and appreciated the support and encouragement extended by the Civil Services Aspirants Club.
The Guest Presented the Certificate of Participation to all the aspirants who have attended the certificate programme.
The Programme was conducted by Ms Deepti Santhosh Head, in charge (Department of Sociology) and a vote of thanks was proposed by Dr Shubha Diwan, Assistant Professor P.G. Department of Biotechnology.

BOOK FAIR

St. Thomas College , Bhilai has conducted a Book Fair on 9th February at the college campus . The event featured a diverse range of students academic , reference books, various literary works by renowned authors. The Fair was hosted by Central Book House , Raipur and Bhagwati Bhawani Book Depot , Durg . Staffs and students had the opportunity to explore various genres and love for reading book. The College administrator Rev . Fr. Joshi Verghese and Principal Dr. M G Roymon has supported the event make success.
