Ms Jhilam Sahu qualified CSIR JRF with AIR 163 in Physics

Ms Jhilam Sahu, a student of the Department of Physics & Electronics, St. Thomas College, Bhilai of batch 2021-22 has cleared the CSIR-NTA NET/JRF with AIR 163. She completed her B.Sc. then belongs to the first batch of M.Sc. Physics of the College. She was also the first student  in the College who earned a certificate from NPTEL.

Administrator Rev. Fr. Dr. Joshi Varghese and the Principal Dr. M. G. Roymon gave their blessing for her achievement. Incharge of the Department of Physics & Electronics Mr. Amit Kumar Tamrakar, Mrs. Tulika Harshit, Ms Priya Sai and Mr Suryaprasad Singh congratulated her by giving best wishes for her bright future ahead.

Mega Tree Plantation

Department of Education, National Service Scheme and IQAC of  St. Thomas College, Ruabandha Bhilai organized Mega Tree Plantation in collaboration with Lions Club Bhilai Royal on 28th July, 2013. The chief guest of this program was Mr. Anil Agrawal, GLT Coordinator Lions Club Bhilai Royal. First of all Administrator of the college Rev. Fr. Dr. Joshi Varghese appreciated the efforts taken by college towards environment safety. Principal of College Dr. M. G. Roymon welcomed all the guests and explained the importance of plants for the safety of environment. Chief guest Mr. Anil Agrawal gave his best wishes to the college for organizing this program. Mr. Abhishek Agrawal, President Lions Club Bhilai Royal presented a brief report about the programs run by club for environment safety. On this occasion all the guests, NSS volunteers and other staff members planted many trees of various fruits. The program was conducted by Dr. Anupama Gangrade, Assistant Professor Dept. of Education and Vote of thanks was proposed by NSS Program Officer Mr. Mahendra Ikhar. On this occasion IQAC Coordinator Dr. Debjani Mukherjee, Co-convener of NSS Dr. Maju Joy, Sports officer Mr. Kailash Narayan Verma, other faculties and staff members were present.

Orientation Program for newly admitted students

Department of Management Studies, St. Thomas College, Ruabandha Bhilai organized one day Orientation Program for newly admitted students of BBA First Semester. The keynote speaker of this program was Dr. Susan R. Abraham Head, Department of Management Studies. First of all madam has provided the basic details of department and course and then she presented the structure of curriculum and pattern of semester examination. It is worth mentioning that department of management studies is running in the college successfully for last 24 years. Principal Dr. M.G. Roymon congratulated to the department for successfully organizing the orientation program and said that St. Thomas College Bhilai provides the best platform to students to excel their academic as well as personal skills on regular intervals. Mr. Mahendra Ikhar Assistant Professor, Dept. Of Management Studies gave presentation on Effective Presentation Skills. This program was coordinated by BBA students Aryan Vishwakarma, Guatam Jaiswal, Neeraj, Nidhi Gaikwad and Ananya Pandey.

“ZINDAGI NA MILEGI DOBAARA” an Awareness Program

The PG. Department of Commerce organised an Awareness Program “ZINDAGI  NA MILEGI  DOBAARA” in collaboration with Chhattisgarh Chamber of Commerce and Industries Bhilai Branch on 20/7/2023. The program focused on Cyber Crime (safety and awareness), Road safety, Self reliance with self employment and healthy life style Mr. Ajay Bhasin Secretary Chhattisgarh Chamber of Commerce was the Chief Guest. Mr.Ajay Bhasin said that the students should take every opportunity in life and asked students to come forward to make India a developed nation The Principal of the college Dr. M. G. Roymon presided over the program, in his presidential address Sir said that such type of awareness programs are beneficial for the students and they should try to implement it in their day today life. Mr. Aseem Sehgal an International Wellness Coach urged the students to lead a healthy life which can be possible through disciplined life style. Mr. Niladri Shah a successful business and alumni of St. Thomas College shared his experiences and encouraged the students to come with good start ups .Mr. Bodhan Sahu Traffic Inspector gave necessary instructions to the students. Mr. Mohammad Hirani a successful businessman was also present on the occasion. Dr.Sapna Sharma Head PG. Department of Commerce welcomed the gathering. The program was conducted by Dr. Neelam Gandhi Asst. Prof PG. Department of Commerce .Mr.Shankar Sachdev helped in coordinating the program. IQAC Co-ordinator and Head PG. Department of Psychology DR. Debjani Mukherjee was present on the occasion. The program was attended by the staff and students of commerce and other departments. The students actively participated in the activities which were held for them.

First Year classes commence at St. Thomas College, Bhilai with Blessing Ceremony.

St. Thomas College Ruabandha, Bhilai organized Induction Program and Blessing Ceremony for the newly admitted students of B.Sc, BBA, BCA, B.Com, BAJMC and B.A for the academic session 2023-24.The Ceremony commenced with lighting of the Lamp and rendering the College Prayer. The Manager Bishop of the College His Grace Alexios Mar Eusebius Metropolitan of Calcutta Diocese was the Chief Guest. The Blessing Ceremony was presided over by the Manager Bishop. Addressing the Students His Grace spoke about the importance of education and emphasized the students to follow noble values of discipline in their everyday lives and contribute towards the nation building. His Grace emphasized the students to inculcate in them the ethos and culture of the institution .Principal of the College Dr. M.G. Roymon delivered the Welcome Speech and extended a warm welcome to all the students and the parents. He exhorted the students to lead a righteous life and to utilize all the facilities of the College for their holistic development. Administrator of the College Rev. Fr. Dr Joshi Varghese also graced the Ceremony with his valuable presence.
At the outset of Program, a Power Point Presentation briefing the various Departments and the respective Faculty Members along with the Clubs and the Forums was introduced to the students.
The Induction Program also highlighted on the Code of Conduct for the students , Examination Pattern, Book Bank Facility, Scholarship, Endowments , NCC ,NSS , Sports ,Cultural Activities and plethora of activities organized in the College . The proactive Anti- Narcotic Cell of the College imparted awareness against use of Narcotic substance. To conscientize Students and Staff, a pledge was administered by Principal of the College. The newly admitted students Shreeya Bhoi ( B.Sc – I Microbiology ) and Komal Sahu ( B.Com-I) shared views about their preference for selecting the reputed College. The Ceremony was followed by Mentor – Mentee interaction to guide and advice the students about the syllabus and other programs conducted in the department. The Manager Bishop of the College His Grace Alexios Mar Eusebius, Administrator of the College Rev. Fr. Dr Joshi Varghese and Principal of the College Dr. M.G. Roymon launched the College Magazine- The Santhomian (2022-23) on the auspicious Day.

P.G. Dept. of Psychology organised an online program on SET & NET Orientation with MoU Partner Kristu Jyoti College of Technology and Management, Changanacherry.

P.G Dept. of Psychology, St. Thomas College, Bhilai in collaboration with MOU partner Kristu Jyoti College of Technology and Management, Changanacherry organized a Program on SET & NET Orientation.  Resource person of the program was Dr. Ankita Deshmukh, Asst. Professor at St. Thomas College Bhilai, Dr. Ankita spoke about the pattern of exam and strategies to crack it.

Rev. Father Joshy Cheeramkuzy CMI, Principal Kristu Jyoti College welcomed the gathering and threw light on the importance of SET & NET.

Food Adulteration and Safety Regulation

A one day talk on Food Adulteration and Safety Regulation was organized by the Department of Chemistry, St. Thomas College, Bhilai on 12.04.2023. The Resource person of the programme was Mr. Domendra Dhruw food safety officer, Rajnandgaon. He talked on food adulteration, food safety, food testing and easy way of detecting adulterants in food product at home. He motivated the students sharing his own journey of becoming food officer to appear in various competitive exam. He assured his cooperation and shared his contact no. with the students. PG students of physics, chemistry, bio-tech, microbiology, botany and zoology along with their faculties attended the programme. The programme ended with a interactive session. Students satisfied their various queries. This program has been conducted by the inspiration of Rev.Fr.Dr.Joshi Varghese, Administrator St. Thomas College, Bhilai. Dr. M.G. Roymon, Principal of St Thomas College, Bhilai felicitated  speaker by giving a Mamento. P G Department of Psychology Celebrates World Health Day

P.G Dept. of Psychology and IQAC  St. Thomas College, Bhilai celebrated World Health Day. For the event students conducted Physical health and hygiene awareness in the neighboring society and went to   slums of Ruabandha, Bhilai. The P.G students of the Department distributed Masks,sanitizers and soaps to the elderly and children. The young females of the slum area were distributed healthy sprouts and protein packets.

The students also talked with  the residents spreading information of Physical fitness, cleanliness, proper use of mask, sanitizers and mandatory use of soap before meals. Importance of vaccination for infants was also explained.

The awareness regarding dengue, malaria,AIDS were spread through slogans of and posters. The slogans consisted of keeping drains and window cooler clean and proper way of disposal of trash.

Administrator of the college, Rev Father Dr. Joshy Varghese appreciated the initiative and stressed that in today’s scenario one has to be conscious about his Physical as well as Mental Health. Principal Dr. M.G. Roymon said the IQAC has to conduct such awareness programs for Physical well Being and we at St. Thomas College are always seeking ways of doing so. Dr. Debjani Mukherjee Head, P.G dept. of psychology welcomed the gathering and said every student should be aware of his health and that the true success can be achieved only if one is Physically and Mentally Fit. Faculties Dr. Ankita Deshmukh, Dr. Sumita Singh and Mr. Tanmaya Pattnaik  encouraged the students for their initiative and hard work.

Veteran Nuclear Physicist Prof. Prakash Chandra Sood, a recipient of the Padma Shri award, interacted with students of the Journalism and Mass Communication Department

Veteran Nuclear Physicist Prof. Prakash Chandra Sood, a recipient of the Padma Shri award, interacted with students of the Journalism and Mass Communication Department of St. Thomas College, Bhilai. Prof. Sood had recently received the Padma Shri from the Honourable President Draupadi Murmu at the Rashtrapati Bhavan for his prolonged service and contributions in the respective field of literature and education. The students of the Journalism Department had the opportunity to ask questions and learn from Prof. Sood’s exceptional knowledge and experience in his residence.
College Administrator Father Dr. Joshi Varghese and Principal Dr. M.G. Roymon extended his best wishes to the students for this special and rare interaction. On behalf of the college family, HOD Incharge Dr. Reema Dewangan gifted a sandalwood plant to Dr. Sood and Mrs. Usha Sood and draped them with a shawl as a mark of respect.
Assistant Professor and Journalist Md. Zakir Hussian gave a brief introduction of the remarkable life of Prof. Sood. At 94 years of age and after 70 years of teaching nuclear physics, Prof. Sood still continues to have the spirit of teaching as he eagerly answered the questions of the students. On the key question asked by the students regarding the possible impact of nuclear energy on climate change, Prof. Sood said that “No fossil materials are used in the production of nuclear energy and its production also does not emit green house gases, as such there is no need to be concerned of climate change due to nuclear energy.” He recalled that prior to independence, even reference books of nuclear physics were rare in the country and the guidance of his teachers when he incidentally applied for the American Fellowship and pursued his further education abroad. Prof. Sood also told the students about the many personalities he was associated with, Former President Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, Nobel Laureate Abdus Salam and Former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh. He also narrated the story behind setting up India’s first computer lab during 1978-80 while he was the head of the Physics Department at BHU. He said that today our country is self-sufficient in the field of atomic energy because efforts were started for this since the country’s independence. During this conversation, Prof. Sood’s son-in-law and retired CGM from SAIL Corporate Office, New Delhi, Rakesh Kumar also shared his experiences of the warm reception their family received during the Padma Shri Award ceremony.
Towards the end, Assistant Professor Amitabh Sharma expressed his gratitude to Prof. Sood. In making this interaction successful, Assistant Professor Chhavi Kiran Sahu, President of Media Manch Yashraj Yadav along with Aditya S Kumar, Kanishk Mishra, Kiran Mai Jadav, Shrishti Dubey, Sengel Tirkey, Alwin P. Sunil and Pranjal Tiwari made special contributions.

Department of Chemistry organized a ESSAY COMPETITION to mark “WORLD WATER DAY”

The Department of Chemistry, St. Thomas College, Bhilai and IQAC has organized a EASSY COMPETITION to mark “WORLD WATER DAY” on  22 March 2023. The theme of Eassy competition is Accelerating the Change to Solve the water and sanitation crisis. The PG students participated in the eassy competition and they wrote different types of eassy on the basis of the theme. They also learnt how we change our environment and solve the water problems.  HOD Dr. James Matew and Dr. Chanda verma appreciated the eassys. The 1st prize went to Harshita yadav of M.Sc. 4th Sem. Chemistry and 2nd prize was won by  Aanchal Kannoje M.Sc. 4th Sem. Chemistry and third went to of M.Sc. 4th Sem. Chemistry.
